How to choose a dog?
This year's 9th International Pedigree Dog Exhibition staged in Targi Kielce on 21 and 22 November is the chance to fall instantly in love with a sweet dog's face and the always-wagging tale. However, before we think about introducing a four-legged family member, we need to remember a few important things.
Put emotions aside
It does not really matter whether we want to adopt a mongrel from a shelter or buy a pedigree champion, the this decision must not be driven by our emotions. This is most important. A cute puppy awkwardly crawling among its siblings put on show at the exhibition makes the toughest guy's heart melt. However you need to remember that this puppy may grow and become a huge dog that needs a lot of attention. Four decent walks a day, exquisite food preferences, every holiday spent with you pet - these are just some examples. A tiny puppy is always a huge responsibility we must be ready for when making a decision to have a dog.

The dog is an expense, no doubt about it. A pedigree dog with a certificate may cost as much as several salaries of an average Pole, but there is much more to it. Another household member may also require a visit to a vet, compulsory vaccinations and... food. Labrador Retrieces have lately become a flavour of the month; many of them may suffer from very serious food allergies. It may happen that your dog is allergic to meat and can eat fish only. Our bank account may also suffer when our favourite pet gets ill. Owning a dog is a financial obligation that continues for several years.

Large or small?
Once all practical reasons have been analysed, we can start selecting a dog. Or it is better to say - matching a dog to our character, lifestyle and temperament. We know right from the start that a massive Alaskan Malamute will tormented in a small studio apartment. Unless its owner is an avid runner and will be take their dog for few-kilometre long runs every day. And a family with small children - should they opt for a tiny Yorkie? Probably not. There dogs more mentally balanced dogs that go along with children. And a larger pet will probably better cope playing with children. Labrador retriever is the latest fashion as it looks like a beautiful, delectable biscuit-colour ball. Keep in mind that Labradors are very dynamic dogs, if not there is not enough exercise and entertainment, they are like a typhoon and may tear your apartment to pieces.
The most beautiful love
All this may not sound encouraging, but the most important aspect of having a dog is selfless, boundless love it will give us. There are myriad of benefits that arise from sharing your life with a pet. Dogs have also a positive impact on children's education.
