AWARD WINNERS OF THE "POLISH ROADS OF THE 21ST CENTURY" ACCOLADES ANNOUNCED

The "Polish Roads of the 21st Century" prizes have been presented jointly at the initiative of the "Polish Roads" editorial team, the Road and Bridge Research Institute and the  Polish Chamber of Commerce of Road Construction Industry. The winners received the statuettes from Mr Adam Kulikowski, President of OIGD, Mrs. Barbara Dzieciuchowicz, President OIGD, Professor Leszek  Rafalski, Chief Executive of the Road and Bridge Research Institute, the President of Poland's Engineering Academy and Ms. Liliana Chołuj, President of the Management Board "Polish Roads" Publishers.

 This year's awards have been presented in the four categories: Accolades have been awarded to:

  • In the Category of: The Road Sector's Leading Company - RETTENMAIER POLAND modern and in-use tested technologies for local roads construction, modernization and repair - SMA 16 JENA. These allow for financial outlays reduction in the case of the mineral-asphalt mix layer and for shortening the layer application. The accolade is also a commendation for organisation of regular eSeMa conferences.
  • In the Category of: Personality of the Year  - Mr. Waldemar KRÓLIKOWSKI, Director of the Regional Roads Management Board in Olsztyn, in recognition for 2014 implementation of the modern methods for road paving diagnostics, initiation of on-line vehicles-in-motion  weighing scheme and a the measure designed to improve road safety in Warmia-Mazury region.
  • In the Category of:  State and local administration - Mr. TOMASZ LENAR, Director of the County Road Management Board in Przeworsk - for inspiration and implementation of  measures to improve district roads management, for consolidation of the county's road engineering milieux and for organizing the Przeworsk Commuter Rails.
  • In the Category of:  The road-engineering journalist  - Mr. Adam Wozniak of "Rzeczpospolita" daily - for reliable presentation of the problems road engineering has to confront.

 

The winners received the Konin column-shaped statuette. The statuette prototype is the twelfth century stone pillar set half-way along the road from Kruszwica to Kalisz. The pillar is considered Poland's oldest road sign. The "Polish Roads XXI" statuettes founder was the Polish Chamber of Commerce of Road Construction Industry.
