CONFERENCE "STONE IN ITS NATURAL DEPOSIT, LANDSCAPE AND ARCHITECTURE" HELD IN TARGI KIELCE

The House and Garden expo in Targi Kielce included the geological conference - the
seminar brought together dozens of specialists

The 24th conference was organised by  Świętokrzyskie Branch of the Polish Geological Institute - National Research Institute and Targi Kielce.

Those interested had the chance to attend a dozen lectures, including those on Boston  stone cladding at the Freedom Trail (prepared by Professor  Janina Wiszniewska, PIG-PIB, Warsaw and Michał Ruszkowski, Faculty of Geology, University of Warsaw, Warsaw); rocks in architecture  - Krakow's Romanesque churches (by Jan Bromowicz, PhD, Professor of AGH University of Technology and Janusz Magiera, AGH Krakow). Stone biological corrosion  in constructions was discussed in the lecture chaired by Engineer   Marek Rembiś PhD. Hab. from AGH University of Technology Krakow.

Much attention was devoted deterioration of stones that is, their aging, both in rock matter (said Michał Ruszkowski, MA and Prof. Janina Wiszniewska), as well as in urbanized environments.

One of the lectures focussed an interesting geology focussed stroll down the Royal Route in Warsaw. Alicja Bobrowska PhD. from the Institute of Hydrogeology and Engineering Geology at the University of Warsaw lectured on the topic.  Chinese and Swedish granites, white "White Marianna" marble, , Szydłowiec and Tumlin and Kunów sandstone types - all these rocks can be found on the route leading from the Castle Square in Warsaw through Krakowskie Przedmieście, Nowy Świat, Plac Trzech Krzyży, Łazienki, Palace in Wilanów.  Stone deterioration modelling with regard to smog or road salt impact was also discussed in the lecture.    

Other lectures concerned, inter alia the characteristics and provenance of the rocks from the Gothic portal of the St. Elizabeth of Hungary in Wrocław - this was delivered by Katarzyna Zboińska from the Świętokrzyskie Branch of PGI-NRI, Wrocław. The remains of the former rock mining activity in the area of Sitkówka (Swietokrzyskie Mountains) were presented in an interesting lecture prepared by the team team composed of Grzegorz Pabian  MSc, Institute of Geography, UJK, Kielce, Paweł Król,  MSc., National Museum, Kielce, Anna Fijałkowska-Mader PhD., Świętokrzyski Branch of PGI-NRI, Kielce.

Another team of specialists comprised of Anna Fijałkowska-Mader PhD,   Engineer Zbigniew Złonkiewicz from the Świętokrzyskie Branch of PGI-NRI, Kielce and Paweł Król MA offered the lecture on stone in the historic architecture of Szydłów (Świętokrzyskie province).
