What is the present-day state of the Polish language as well as how skilful are we at using our mother tongue? How does the language change? Do Poles cultivate their native language? All possible doubts will be resolved at the “New phenomena of the Polish language” lecture delivered by professor Andrzej Markowski, one of the keynote-speakers present at the EDUKACJA expo. Professor Markowski is a eminent lexicographer and lexicologist as well as the director of the Warsaw University Polish Language Institute.

The lecture’s leitmotif will be the attempt to address the concerns and problematic questions regarding new language phenomena, namely; extraordinary way of word formation (e.g. e-podpis), new syntax (exemplified by Polish kosmetyk od L’ Oreal) as well as new ways of phoneme pronunciation. The phenomena of word and lexical meaning borrowings and phraseme transfer will also be discussed in the presentation. Professor will also introduce the listeners into the changes in style and polite address forms which have taken place over the years.

You are most welcome to attend the lecture and take an active part in the discussion which follows the presentation. The meeting is held at 4 p.m. on 20th March 2013 in Targi Kielce. Professor is also ready to take your post-lecture questions. The meeting is first and foremost targeted at the Polish and English department students, lecturers and teachers as well as all Polish language lovers.
