Employees’ health security is our priority! The NEPSI conference at METAL

The METAL fair was the inauguration of the cycle of meetings devoted to workers’ health protection when in contact with crystalline silica

The workshop organised by NEPSI is one of the METAL fair programme elements. Adam Ditmer the president of Polish Council of NEPSI commenced the cycle of meetings devoted to workers’ health protection when in contact with crystalline silica. The compound cannot be removed from a living organism poses a real threat to people’s health and as such it must not be ignored by employers. The significance of the problem resulted in the indication of a series of meetings; the first in this series was held in Kielce. The problem of unqualified personnel working in specific foundry engineering conditions is also discussed here. “The analysis of the present state of foundries is of utmost importance” – the listeners were persuaded by the NEPSI chairman. The consecutive meetings will be held in Wrocław and Czehc Repulic.

Crystalline silica and products which contain it as well as material and products and raw materials are used in numerous business sectors, chemical, ceramics, construction, electronics, foundry engineering and glass production, gardening and metallurgy and many others. The problem of crystalline silica negative influence on people’s health has also been recognised by the European Union and specific business-line organisations and trade unions. They resolved to take up the necessary steps to gradually eliminate the risk in industrial facilities and drew up the Agreement on Workers' Health Protection Through the Good Handling and Use of Crystalline Silica and Products Containing it. The agreement was signed by the European Producers Association which represents 14 business sectors and over 2 million employees all over Europe and the European Trade Fair Federation including EMCEF – EUROPEAN MINE, CHEMICAL AND ENERGY WORKERS' FEDERATION.
