“All those who join us at the start line, who will set off for the race – they are already the winners” said Krzysztof Głobmowicz; a journalist; addressing over 200 contestants at the start of the Integration Race. The event has been organised for six years and has become the tradition of the REHMED-PLUS trade fair.
There were 223 handicapped contestants standing hand in hand at the start line; they were to cover the 600 metre distance along a new street in the neighbourhood of Targi Kielce, either on their own or assisted by their care-takers. The contestants are the disabled sports people who, against all odds, actively take part in competitions and Olympics. There was a large group of runners who have had a heart transplant.
The distance was also covered by the seventeen-year old Grzegorz Bórzyński of the Special Purpose School and Education Centre in Kielce. And there was a magnificent cup awaiting him at the finish line; all the runners were given gold medals and special souvenirs sponsored by: OSM Włoszczowa, Społem, Cersanit, Echo Dnia daily, Targi Kielce and Hotelik from Pierzchnics as well as Jedność Publishin House.
