How are pedigree pigeons assessed?
The work of the judges who assess pedigree-pigeon race is very similar to the work of Polish Kennel Club representatives. Just like with dogs, they assess birds' silhouette, whether there are symptoms of illness or deformations, what is the shape of the bird's feathers. The birds' body posture is also an important appraisal element. A male pouter that proudly presents and flexes its chest will catch the eye of the harshest judge. The most beautiful pigeons are divided into breeds, and also into the 9 groups, and these are:
- Utility pigeons, e.g. Carneau
- Exhibition Tumblers, e.g. English Magpie
- Homer and Hen Pigeons e.g. the English Carrier
- Pouters and Croppers e.g. the Norwich Cropper
- Colour pigeons e.g. the Czech Coloured
- Feather and Voice Pigeons, e.g. the Fantail
- Frills and Owls, e.g. Oriental Frill
- Tiplers
- Flying Tumblers and Highfliers e.g. Danzig Highflyer
