It has become the tradition of the International Fair of Public Transport TRANSEXPO that the trade fair programme also encompasses the IGKM (Economic Chamber of Municipal Transport) Conference which is held on 9th October, the day before the expo officially opens.
This year’s seminar has been held under the banner of “2025 = PTx2 – the UITP strategy for public transport in reflected in Polish environment”. This year’s Conference focuses on the issues of the International Association of Public Transport strategy announced in June 2009; the strategy establishes a very ambitious goal for the whole sector of public transport. Public transport carriers are to double their general market share by the year 2025. National and local governments’ political will, smart urban planning, sustainable balance between private-owned cars, public transport vehicles and the streams of pedestrians and cyclists, are required in order to attain this goal.
The discussion focused on these problems; it was designed to inform and educate about opportunities and ways for Poland’s public transport sector to accomplish the strategy objectives and to preserve the specificity and capabilities of our country.
