The interview with the 3D Printing Days success co-creator
The upcoming 3D Printing Days edition promises to be a record-breaking one. 3D Printing Days is this part of Europe's largest event of its kind March 2015's edition was the showcase for more than 50 exhibitors, it attracted 4500 visitors. Now we know that this year's event will be even bigger and more interesting. The 3D Printing Days in the interview with the event's founder - the FabLab Kielce president Mr Janusz Wojcik.
How did you come up with the idea to organize such an event, i.e. the 3D Printing Days?
The idea was to promote the 3D print in Kielce. It was supposed to be a local event, initially held at the students' club, however it soon began to develop. At some point we hit the idea to look for someone who is able to organise the event in a professional way. The answer was just round the corner - Targi Kielce is the institution which perfectly fits the purpose. This year's 3D Printing Days organised in conjunction with Targi Kielce is held for the third time.
How popular is this edition of the event, who is the event targeted at?
Of course these are people deeply interested in this technology. What makes us really happy, is the fact that representatives of the broadly-defined business are also into it. Audiences are apparently expanding. This is a new technology; in Poland it appeared less than 10 years ago. Ever since then it has been rapidly developing. More and more devices are created; these are used for an increased number of applications. The number of appliances sellers as well as the number of customers are increasing. They just need to be brought together in one place. The 3D Printing Days held in Targi Kielce is an ideal platform for them to meet.
3D printing seems to be a fascinating technology, how can it be used?
In can be used in virtually any industry. This is a huge spectrum of applications, starting from the 3D fun - you print things at home, through prototype prints to prints used in medicine, heavy industry and aviation.
This edition of the 3D Printing Days - what will it be like?
We have already registered more than 70 exhibitors, so are going toe beat another record. Last year's edition hosted 50 exhibitors. Last year we uses to 1000 m2 exhibitions space, this year we are going to occupy the entire G Expo Hall; the area accounts for about 4400 m2. I think facts and figures speak for themselves.
Any surprise from this year's exhibitors?
One of the curiosities will certainly be the "Goliaths race". A Goliath is a German, remote-controlled self-propelled mine. Such vehicles have been restored by specialists from Warsaw; Goliaths will be put to agility competitions at Targi Kielce. This year we will have as many as 40 lectures on 3D printing - this is an incredible knowledge pool. I cannot imagine the situation where technical University students decide not to participate in these lectures. We must also remember that 3D printing is changing all the time. The 3D Printing Days are also continually transformed; this is not the event we witnessed three years ago. This year's 3D Printing Days will be a fully professional event targeted at business-insiders.
