The Polish Cities Association

The Polish Cities Association is a nationwide self-government organization which represents the interests of cities and towns, supports local self-governance and decentralization processes. Its objective is a better development of Polish cities. Its objectives are delivered through  legislative lobbying, experts support, experiences exchange, promotion of cities, international cooperation and information dissemination and publications.

The Polish Cities Association has operated since 1917; already in the inter-war period the Association boasted extensive achievements. After World War II ZMP activities were discontinued.  Immediately after the first free local elections (27 May 1990)  the idea to restore the Association appeared. It took just a few months for councils of nearly 60 towns to adopt the resolution to join the Association. In January 1991 the Association's Restitution Congress was held in Poznan, its registered office. Now the Association boasts 297 members. About 73% of urban population lives in the Association-member cities.

ZMP provides  experts support  for cities. It offers legal experts analyses, conducts surveys and monitors public services through the Local Government Analysis System (SAS).
