Pedigree racial  such as rex or the French ram rabbit usually weigh about 5-6 kilos. Belgian giants are therefore twice as large as well known rabbits. These giants come from the Flemish region of Belgium, in the vicinity of Gent. The breeding history dates back to 1825, however its beginnings are practically unknown. However this is the oldest breed of rabbits.;  Belgian giants probably developed from many crosses of meat and fur yielding breeds. At the end of the nineteenth century these rabbits were exported to America in order to increase body mass by crossing with local races. As early as in 1910, they occasionally appeared on large breeds rabbits shows.

Świętokrzyskie Rabbit Exhibition will accompany the 47th Regional Carrier Pigeons Exhibition / Swietokrzyskie Exhibition of Pedigree Pigeons / Swietokrzyskie Rabbit Exhibition and specialised pet-articles market.  Join us in Targi Kielce from on 3 and 4 December 2016.
